What Is Green Tripe and Why Do Dogs Love It?

Ask any raw feeder about green tripe and they'll tell you two things: it smells strong, and dogs go mad for it.

What is green tripe?

Green tripe is the stomach lining of grazing animals such as cattle. It's called "green" because it's left unbleached and unprocessed. The tripe you see in butchers for people has been cleaned and bleached, which strips out much of what makes it appealing to dogs.

Why do dogs love it?

Its strong smell and taste make it one of the best foods for fussy eaters. Many owners mix a little green tripe into other meals to get picky dogs eating.

Why raw feeders use it

  • It's a natural, unprocessed whole food
  • It's highly palatable, so great for fussy dogs
  • It adds variety to a raw diet alongside chicken and beef

How to feed green tripe

Green tripe works well as part of a varied raw diet rather than the only thing your dog eats. You can feed it on its own a few times a week, or choose a ready-mixed option like green tripe and chicken.

Handling tips

Defrost it in the fridge in a sealed container to keep the smell in check, and wash hands and surfaces after handling, as with any raw meat.
